Pittsburgh Health Care Professionals Accused of Diversion

The numbers are on the rise for Nurses and Health Care Professionals being accused of diverting drugs for personal use.  In return, the number of these individuals who have had action taken against their license has been on the rise as well.

Nurses, in addition to all Health Care Professionals who are being accused of diverting pain killers/drugs for personal use could face many serious challenges which could include criminal and/or administrative prosecutions and the possibility of losing their license.

Health Care Professionals who are in a situation similar to this, need to know that they are entitled to seek legal help to protect their rights and their license throughout this process.

First and foremost, it is imperative that the Health Care Professional being accused contact our office to speak with Attorney Paletta who has extensive experience representing Doctors, Nurses, and other Health Care Professionals who are facing both Criminal & Administrative Prosecutions.

Once a hospital, or place of employment suspects "diversion" of drugs, an investigation will be initiated and
the individual suspected will be questioned utilizing internal hospital records. The individual will be pressured to provide a statement which can easily be an admission of responsibility or guilt. The result of this investigation, including any admissions, will be presented to law enforcement, often the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.  It is common that Agents from the Attorney General's Office visit the individual's home to "ask a few questions".
One's "cooperation" will translate into a criminal prosecution, and consequent administrative prosecution by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs which would likely result in suspension of professional license.

If you are a Doctor, Nurse, Pharmacist or other health care professional licensed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs , and you are experiencing “challenges” in your professional and/or personal life which may lead to criminal and/or administrative prosecution and possible loss of license, it is imperative that you contact our offices immediately.
